Arctic Import delivers furniture and fixtures for Faroese prestige construction
Glasir in Tórshavn, with its 1,500 students and 250 staff members, is by far the largest educational center in the Faroe Islands. Arctic Import has supplied lounge and library furniture for this impressive construction, which was designed by BIG Architects and decorated by Rosan Bosch Studio.
Overlooking the Faroese capital of Tórshavn and the stunning Nólsoy fjord lies one of the most prestigious constructions in the island group in recent times – the educational center Glasir.
The center was established in 2018, when the three high schools, Føroya Gymnasium, Handelsskolen, and Teknisk Skole, merged and were housed under one roof.
This beautiful building was designed by the internationally renowned architectural firm BIG Architects, which drew inspiration for the building's shapes from the dramatic landscape of Tórshavn, while another esteemed interior and design firm, Rosan Bosch Studio, is responsible for the interior design.
The requirements for suppliers for this prestigious project were, unsurprisingly, exceptionally high, and that's precisely why Arctic Import was chosen to provide lounge furniture as well as furniture and fixtures for the center's library.
"There were large and internationally recognized architects involved in the project, and that naturally commands a certain respect. However, we approached the task as we approach all our assignments: with humility, respect, and an eye for the customer's needs", explains Sophus E. Dal Christiansen, the Sales Manager of Arctic Import Torshavn.
With both academic and technical educations under the same roof, interdisciplinarity is a key focus at the educational center, and according to Sophus E. Dal Christiansen, this should also be reflected in the furniture and fixtures:
"One of the reasons behind the merger of the academic and technical educations was to enhance the quality of the educations through synergies. This was to be reflected, among other things, in the center's library, and therefore we were in close collaboration with Rosan Bosch Studio on where it would be most appropriate to place, for example, shelves and other library furniture", he says.
The design of the center was also intended to support the students' ability to work in groups. Therefore, Arctic Import provided COURAGE sofas from MITAB, which are Swan-labelled modular sofas, as well as SILHOUETTE sofas from HAY.
"The COURAGE modules can be assembled as needed and, in combination with the sofas from HAY, which provide good screening, create the possibility of making smaller spaces within a larger area. Furthermore, the furniture and fixtures also contribute to creating variation and tying the room together", concludes Sophus E. Dal Christiansen.
