Tailored interior design for URD - The rehabilitation center on the Faroe Islands

Nestled in the outskirts of Torshavn, stands "Umlættingar- og rehabiliteringsdepilin," widely known as "URD". This center is marked as the Faroe Islands' first municipal rehabilitation center. Situated in the Hoyvik district with views overlooking Nólsoyarfjørður, URD is designed to be a beacon of rehabilitation and well-being. Offering 27 beds, the center aims to meet the increasing demand for comprehensive rehabilitation– including services such as occupational therapy, physiotherapy, advanced training facilities, and dietitian consultations.

At Arctic Import, as specialists in interior design, we are proud to have played a key role in shaping URD. Our task was to supply furniture and fixtures that not only meet the functional requirements of a modern rehabilitation center but also blend with and highlight the surrounding nature, creating an atmosphere of peace and healing. Our involvement in the project reflects our dedication to creating environments that support rehabilitation and well-being, while capturing the essence of the unique Faroese scenery.

By choosing design solutions that respect and incorporate the natural surroundings, we’ve helped transform URD into an example of how architecture and design can work hand in hand with local culture and nature. This project underscores our ability to deliver customized solutions that meet our clients' visions and needs, with a deep understanding of the site's character and possibilities.

Our work with URD exemplifies our skill and passion for creating environments that not only meet but exceed expectations. Working closely with Torshavn Municipality and the architectural firm Lofti Arkitekter, we have fine-tuned every detail to ensure that the interior meets both practical needs and aesthetic ambitions. This project is a proud example of how Arctic Import manages to unite aesthetics, functionality, and care for the individual in our solutions.

Our attention to detail means that we care about everything from the choice of felt pads under the furniture to the number of shelves in a bookcase. "It's important for us to dive into every little detail with the customer to ensure they get exactly the solution they dream of," says Sophus E. Dal Christiansen, Sales Manager at Arctic Import Faroe Islands. This includes everything from the color composition of the furniture to the choice of fabric and upholstery, where we also draw on the architects' expertise to achieve the perfect match.

The unique location with its sea view has inspired us to select furniture and fixtures that reflect the center's raw and natural architectural design - all while resonating with the Faroese nature. "Our goal is that every element in the center is not only functional but also contributes to an atmosphere of peace and healing," concludes Sophus E. Dal Christiansen.
