Modern Learning Environments for the School of the Future

With Atuarfik Inussuk, Nuuk has gained a modern school where learning environments, community and flexibility have been integrated into every square metre.

Arctic Import supplied furniture and interior fittings for the project, which represents the largest delivery of furniture and loose inventory ever made to a public school in Greenland.

The school provides a setting where creativity, collaboration, interdisciplinary learning and wellbeing are at the heart of everyday life. The interior design and carefully selected furniture play a vital role in creating inspiring surroundings that support both teaching and student engagement.

The furniture has been carefully selected to support the school's vision of creating secure and supportive learning communities alongside flexible environments for both pupils and teachers. Working together with Lekolar's experienced interior designers, learning spaces have been created that accommodate a variety of teaching methods and encourage active participation.

The school is far more than a place of education. The building also serves as a gathering place for the local community, hosting a wide range of activities and events. Local associations have access to the facilities as well, making the school an active and important part of community life in Nuuk.

Behind the project lies a significant logistical effort. Arctic Import was responsible for project management, quality assurance and the coordination of deliveries from Denmark to Greenland. The furniture and interior fittings were transported safely to Nuuk before being assembled and installed as part of the overall project.

With a gross floor area of 16,500 square metres, Atuarfik Inussuk was designed to replace and bring together several of the city's older schools. The new learning spaces support pupils' academic development while providing flexible settings for modern teaching, with interior design playing a central role.

The project demonstrates how carefully considered furniture solutions and close collaboration between advisers, suppliers and interior design specialists can transform ambitious visions into well-functioning learning environments that create lasting value for pupils, staff and the wider community.

Over the years, Arctic Import has contributed to a number of major construction and interior design projects across Greenland, including the delivery of furniture, play equipment and interior fittings for the Naasut daycare centre in Nuuk, which opened in December 2023.
